Views of the city from Montjuïc

The name Montjuic means Hill of Jupiter (in Latin) or Hill of the Jews (in medieval Catalan). The Montaña de Montjuic is a famous mountain located in Sants-Montjuic district of Barcelona, Spain.
The fortress called ‘Castell de Montjuïc’ is located at the top of the hill. This amazing castle used to serve as a prison and on different occasions during the Spanish Civil War, both Nationalists and Republicans were executed there. The top of Montjuic is facing the harbour, to the southeast of Barcelona.
In 1929 Barcelona hosted the International Exposition and a large-scale construction of Montjuic Hill began. Nowadays Montjuic is a very popular site of Barcelona and has many beautiful and interesting constructions to visit - the Olympic stadium (Estadi Olímpic in Catalan), the elegant Palau Nacional, the Magic Fountains with its amazing water and music show, the charming village with different Spanish architectural styles called Pueblo Español and of course the icon of modern design movement Mies van der Rohe's pavilion.
